Finding Us

The Laser Analytics Lab is in the new Science and Engineering Hall of the George Washington University. This facility was opened in January of 2015 and contains more than 500,000 ft2 of space and houses research from the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, The School of Engineering and Applied Science, the School of Public Health, and the School of Medicine. The building sits on a block between 22nd and 23rd Streets and H and I streets in the Northwest quadrant of the District of Columbia. (The official street address is 800 22nd Street, NW.). Visitors are advised to report to the Chemistry Department Office, Suite 4000. Personel there can usually track us down in the building. Further, portions of the building. including faculty offices and lab areas. are access controlled.

The Foggy Bottom Campus of GWU is located in downtown Washington DC, a few blocks from the White House, the State Department, and the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

From Area Airports via Public Transportation

THe SEH is immediately adjacent to the Foggy Bottom/ GWU station on Washington's Metro (light rail) system and is served by the Orange, Blue and Silver lines. From DCA, the blue line is the most direct connection. From IAD, one can take a Washington Flyer bus to Reston and then join the silver line or take the B5 Metro bus to Roslyn and then transfer to rail. Metro bus also serves BWI with connections at Greenbelt. BWI is also served by both MARC (Maryland) and Amtrak rail services connecting to Metro at Union Station.

By Personal Car

There is a visitors' parking lot in the lower levels of the SEH entered from H street between 22nd and 23rd Streets. Machines are located in the parking lot elevator lobbies to pay for parking.

Deliveries

Our delivery address for Fed Ex or UPS is 800 22nd Street, NW., Suite 4000, Department of Chemistry, Washington, DC 20052. Please note that large deliveries to the building should be directed to the loading dock which is accessed from I street between 22nd and 23rd.

About the SEH and our Lab Facilities

The bulk of our lab activities are carried out in the Laser Analytics Lab on the 3rd floor of the SEH. This facility has two large, vibration isolated, optical tables, 2-24 ft2 mounted on dollies, and several smaller, portable optical tabel tops for breadboarded experiments.

The lab can be divided into several zones that are each protected by state of the art barriers and interlock systems. Although the building is open and filled with natural light by design, the entire lab or sections of it nay be darkened at the touch of a button to vary both natural and artificial light levels.

Greenhouse Gas Sensor Facility

In addition to the third floor labs, we have access to ambient air near the roof of the SEH for deploying both established and prototypes of greenhouse gas sensors In the planned facility we will have a Los Gatos Research Ultraportable Greenhouse Gas Analyzer (to measure Species: CH4, CO2, and H2O Industry standard to act as calibration source for PiOxide Sensors PiOxide Sensor Calibration Station Species: CO2 Temperature and Humidity Cavity Ringdown Spectrometer (CRDS) Species: CO, CO2, H2O, NH3, and HCN Open Path TDLAS Species: CH4 and CO2 Miniaturized Laser Hetrodyne Radiometry (LHR) Species: CH4 and CO2
